Pauline Modjeski is the Owner and Operator of The White Street Café located in Frankfort, IL.
Pauline began her career in the finance industry first working for Refco, Inc a futures broker in the back-office. She later went to work for Sentinel Investment Management before leaving in 1991 to help start-up Horizon Cash Management. She started in 1991 as Horizon’s Director of Administration and moved her way up over the years. In 2008 she was named President. 2008 was also the year Pauline was named one of the year’s Rising Stars in the Hedge Fund Industry by Institutional Investor Magazine.
Over the years, Pauline has volunteered her time with a number of organizations. As her children were growing up she was Treasurer of the local Cub Scouts Pack 123 and served as Treasurer of the St. Liborious Athletic Association. In addition, Pauline served on the Boards of the Horizon Foundation for Education and Association House of Chicago.
In 2013 after being with Horizon for over 20 years she made the decision to leave Horizon to pursue a different direction. At first, Pauline thought she would continue her career in the not for profit world. However, after reading that the Frankfort Meats and Deli was closing, she quickly made up her mind to pursue a dream that had been building over time. Pauline used to walk her beloved Golden Retriever, Cooper every morning through downtown Frankfort before she left for her job at Horizon. They would walk past the Trolley Barn building every morning and over time she had a vision for what she would have liked to seen in downtown Frankfort. After reading that the deli was closing she moved quickly and within a week signed a lease for the deli’s space. In October 2013, Pauline and her family opened the doors of the White Street Café and have never looked back!
