5-minute Q & A
What are the top three highlights of your life?
1. My marriage to my lovely wife, Kathy, in 1986
2. The birth of my first child, Megan, in 1990. Although the birth of my other 2 (Kaitlyn-1993 and Nathan-1996) were awesome too.
3. The birth of my first grandchild, Piper, in 2015.
Tell us a little about your family.
My oldest daughter, Megan, is 29 and is married to Gray Moser and they live outside of Minneapolis in Plymouth, MN. They currently have 3 children: Piper, 4-1/2; Axel, 3 in October; and Soren,15 months.
My second child, Kaitlyn, is 26, lives and works in Chicago (digital marketing field) and will probably never move back home!
My third child, Nathan, is 23 and is engaged to be married in July 2020
What do you like to do in your spare time?
   a. Play golf whenever possible.
    b. Exercise (always try to train for some race up to half marathons, cycling).
    c. Reading - Bible and history/commentary of Bible and early church, spy/legal fiction such as John Grisham, Lee Child (Jack Reacher), Ken Follet.
What does true leadership mean to you?
Serving others, putting others first and making it possible for others to succeed.
Where would you like to travel?
I would like to travel to the Netherlands (the "old country" for me), to see where my ancestors are from. Also, it would allow me to see what it would be like to live below sea level!
What is your favorite sport?
Most definitely basketball, as I played all through junior high, high school and college. I also have been a basketball official for the past 25+ years. Officiating allows me to keep up with and stay involved in the game I love.
Kim Van Ordstrand
2019 Volunteer Chair
I have been active in the Frankfort Chamber since becoming a member in 2016. I currently volunteer on the Fall Fest Committee as Volunteer Chair and during the Fest as a Block Captain. Previously, I was a chair for Community Showcase. Volunteering for events that give back to the community has always been something I've enjoyed.
As Fall Fest Volunteer Chair, I have met so many residents and Chamber members both "new and old" - I enjoy sharing the excitement of Fall Fest with them along with the benefits that this event provides. In return, they share their stories, their businesses and hopefully their time. There really is no downside! I truly love to chat and meet new people!
I have built wonderful relationships and friendships in my short time with the Chamber. It's been a wonderful blessing to meet and work with such an amazing group of people.
5-minute Q & A
Tell us a little about your family?
My husband, Matt, and I are high school sweethearts. We have been married for almost 28 years and reside in Frankfort with our labrador retreiver, Lincoln.
We have two grown children, Jonathan and Melissa. Jonathan and his wife Eva have a beautiful daughter Abigail and are expecting their second child in December.
Melissa recently graduated St. Ambrose, moved to Chicago and is a student at John Marshall Law.
My husband Matt, along with his partner John, are law partners at Clavio, Van Ordstrand & Associates.
I spend my days playing with my granddaughter, gardening and working at CRIS Realty as a Real Estate Broker.
Where would you like to travel to?
I enjoy wandering just about anywhere. But I would love to travel to Ireland or Italy. The landscape, the amazing architecture and history would be wonderful to see, photograph and enjoy firsthand.
What is one food you wish had zero calories?
I wish Nothing Bundt Cakes had zero calories! They are like little addictive crack cakes! (can I say that? lol)
What else do you do for fun?
I love to read - mostly murder mystery or horror. I enjoy being outside, camping, the beach, hiking, anything outdoors where the sun is shining and it's warm - I'm in! Photographing landscapes, old architecture and barns. And any day with my grand daughter is a perfectly fun day!
What do you like most about your job?
Meeting new people, hearing their stories, sharing in their "home" buying/selling journey - I love it all! I truly believe there is a home out there for everyone. You know when you've found "the one" - it's exciting and amazing!
